“We lost most of our livestock to the floods. With the food we received today, we will be able to feed our children and families for many weeks to come. Thank you for giving us hope,” said a resident of Phin district, Savannakhet, who was displaced by recent flooding. Her family and 54 others each received goods wroth of 70 kg of rice, canned fish, vegetable oil, and hygiene supplies as part of US support for the Lao government’s emergency relief efforts in southern Laos following two large tropical storms.

Last week, our team from USAID and Catholic Relief Services distributed these crucial food and hygiene supplies to impacted households in flood-affected areas of Savannakhet province. Donated by @USAID.OFDA, the commodities include 37,500 kg of rice, 1,500 liters of vegetable oil, 22,500 cans of fish, and hygiene products. More than 800 families across 8 villages in Xepon and Phin districts received the goods.

Our team also taught the villagers about the importance of good hygiene, particularly in the aftermath of a natural disaster when disease can more easily spread.
